Newlyweds & First-Time Buyers in Connecticut | RYZE Realty Group

You said yes to each other. Now say yes to your first home.

You chose your venue the moment it felt right. Finding the home you'll build a life in should feel exactly the same way.

A couple embracing at sunset under a glowing orange sky

One address, two names.

You've spent months merging two families, two guest lists and two sets of opinions into one perfect day. A house is next.

Combining finances. Whose name goes where. What you each actually want versus what you're willing to compromise on. We've guided plenty of couples through exactly this: the practical parts of building a life together, without the stress.

An agent who feels like a friend who happens to know real estate.

No pressure. Ever.

We'd rather wait than push you into the wrong home. The right one is worth finding, even if that means a few more Saturdays looking.

We work with both of you.

Two people, two wish lists. We help you land on the home you're both genuinely excited about, not the one somebody settled for.

Only Connecticut.

Not a national franchise spread across 40 states. Connecticut is our backyard, and we know it street by street.

We move at your pace.

Buying right after the wedding, or a year out? Either way: no rush, no ghosting, no clock we're trying to beat.

6× Best of Hartford.

Voted Connecticut's best real estate company six years running, by the communities we serve.

Always reachable.

A direct line to your agent. Not a receptionist, not a voicemail. Real answers, when you need them.

It wasn't the square footage of the venue. It was the feeling when you walked in.

That's the same feeling hundreds of Connecticut couples have had walking into their first home together: the one where you look at each other and just know.

No pressure, no runaround. Just good people who listen to what you actually want, and work hard to make it happen.

Real people. Real front doors.

Buying your first home together.

The questions couples ask us most.

Should we buy a house before or after the wedding?

There's no single right answer — it depends on your finances and your timeline. Many couples wait until after the wedding so the big expenses don't overlap, while others buy first so they have a home to come back to. What matters most is that a mortgage application looks at both of your incomes, debts, and credit, so it's worth a conversation before you commit either way. Your RYZE agent can walk you through the trade-offs for your situation.

Can we buy a home together if we're not married yet?

Absolutely. You do not have to be married to buy a home together in Connecticut. Both names can go on the mortgage and the deed regardless of marital status. Many engaged couples buy before the wedding — just make sure you agree on how ownership is titled, which your real estate attorney can advise on at closing.

Does a recent name change affect a mortgage application?

It can slow things down if your documents don't match. If one of you is changing your name after the wedding, lenders want your legal name, Social Security records, and IDs to line up. If you're mid-change during the application, tell your lender early so they can guide the paperwork. It's rarely a dealbreaker — just something to flag up front.

Do both of our names have to be on the mortgage and the deed?

No. You can put one name on the mortgage and both on the deed, or any combination that fits your situation. Sometimes it makes sense to qualify on the stronger credit profile while still owning the home together. Connecticut is an attorney-closing state, so your real estate attorney will help you title the home the right way — your RYZE agent can recommend one.

Two names on a deed is a pretty great gift to yourselves.
